　メンブレン（Membran）は英語の「membrane」のカタカナ表記で「膜、薄膜、皮膜」を意味する。
ドイツのレーベルなので「メンブラン」とも読める。
　レーベルは、当初「ＴＩＭ」という名称だったが数年で分裂、その中で最大の発売元となったのが、この「MEMBRAN」。
ただ、シリーズは XXCM、DOCUMENTS、などがあるが、発売元である「MEMBRAN」に統一されつつある。
発売したボックス・セットは安価をモットーに数多く手がけているシリーズの中のジャズ。
１枚ごとに１ミュージシャンなので、そのミュージシャンを１枚購入した感じで、お得感が湧（わ）く。

　ジャズ・アルバムで「Relaxin'」と言うと、マイルス・デイヴィスの名盤「Relaxin'」を思い出してしまうが、当アルバムはブルーノート・レーベル音源のコンピレーションアルバムとなる。 アルバム・タイトル通り、リラックスできるジャズ楽曲が収録されている。 真剣に聴くも良し、軽く聴き流すも良し、出典アルバムを捜すのも良し、何しろ音が透き通る様に綺麗（きれい）。
いずれにしても、ブルーノート・レーベルの演奏の完成度の高さは驚かされる。

発売当時から毎年毎年、１２月になると聴いてきたが、ジャズを聴く楽しみは今でも少しも変わらない。
ブルーノートのアルバム「Sonny Clark / Cool Struttin' （クール・ストラティン）」を真似たセクシーサンタ嬢の「Yule Struttin' / A Blue Note Christmas」。
メンバーは一流ミュージシャンなので陳腐化しない。
ちなみに「ユール（Yule）」とはキリスト教が伝来する以前の時代から北欧に伝わる「冬至祭」だそうだ。
現在では「クリスマス」の意味で用いられている。
冬至前後の北極圏の国では日中でも暗く、太陽が沈んだ状態「極夜（きょくや）polar night」が続く。
そのため冬至の頃に昇る太陽は非常に神聖で貴重なものとされた。
人々は大いに太陽の復活を祝うのだそうだ。

２０１３年４月３０日、東京・高田馬場の駅前にあった　「ムトウ楽器店」　が閉店した。
本店の向かい側にジャズ館があった。
けっこう広いフロアーにミュージシャン別の棚があり、お目当てのミュージシャンがすぐ見つかった。
捜せない時はメチャ詳しい店員に聴けば必ずそれに関する情報をくれた。
入口のドア前には、最新の発売商品の広告と、それに関連するパンフ、雑誌などコーナーが設けられており、それを見に行くのが楽しみだった。
「ムトウ楽器店」　以外にも多くの個人経営のレコード店は次から次へと閉店してきた昨今。
他の業界もそうだが、それが時代の波というものだろうが凄く寂しい。
