ウディ・ハーマン（Woody Herman　出生名：Woodrow Charles Thomas Herman　1913年5月16日～1987年10月29日）はアメリカ合衆国ウィスコンシン州ミルウォーキー生まれのジャズ・クラリネット、サクソフォーン奏者、バンドリーダー、歌手。
特徴は、時代の音楽トレンドをいち早く取り入れ、常にバンドのサウンドを刷新し続けた柔軟性と先見性にある。
１，ユニークなサックス編成「フォー・ブラザース」：1947年に結成された「セカンド・ハード」ではテナーサックス3本＋バリトンサックス1本という変則的な4人編成、メンバーにスタン・ゲッツ、ズート・シムズ、ハービー・スチュワード、サージ・チャロフという名ソリストが参加していた。

Woody Herman (born Woodrow Charles Thomas Herman; May 16, 1913 – October 29, 1987) was a jazz clarinetist, saxophonist, bandleader, and singer born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States.
Their defining characteristic lies in their flexibility and foresight, which allowed them to quickly embrace the musical trends of the time and constantly reinvent the band’s sound.
1. The unique saxophone lineup known as the “Four Brothers”: Formed in 1947, “The Second Hard” featured an unconventional four-piece lineup consisting of three tenor saxophones and one baritone saxophone, with renowned soloists Stan Getz, Zoot Sims, Herbie Stewart, and Serge Chaloff among its members. This demonstrates remarkable foresight.
2. An astonishing evolution of sound that kept pace with the times: Active on the front lines from the heyday of swing jazz through modern jazz and into the rock era, they boldly reinvented their band’s sound with each new phase. Their early adoption of rock-pop covers—such as those by The Doors—and modern jazz compositions by artists like Chick Corea, combined with their distinctive brass-rock approach, makes them a must-hear.
