ドン・バイアス（Don Byas 出生名：Carlos Wesley Byas 1913年10月21日～1972年8月24日）は、アメリカ合衆国オクラホマ州マスコギー生まれのジャズ・テナーサックス奏者。
コールマン・ホーキンス譲りの豊かなトーンと高度な理論の知識を持つ。
カウント・ベイシー楽団でレスター・ヤングの後任として活躍、また、ディジー・ガレスピーらと初期のビバップ・コンボを組むなど、時代の最先端を走り続けた。
キャリアの後半、ヨーロッパへ移住した事で、ジャズ史において過小評価された。

【Biography】
Don Byas (born Carlos Wesley Byas; October 21, 1913 – August 24, 1972) was a jazz tenor saxophonist born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, United States.
He possessed a rich tone inherited from Coleman Hawkins and a deep knowledge of music theory.
He made a name for himself as Lester Young’s successor in the Count Basie Orchestra and formed early bebop combos with Dizzy Gillespie and others, consistently staying at the forefront of his era.
Because he moved to Europe in the latter half of his career, he has been underrated in the history of jazz.

メンバーは、プロデューサーがキャノンボール・アダレイ、テナーサックスがドン・バイアス、ピアノがバド・パウエル、トランペットがイドリース・スリーマン、ベースがピエール・ミシェロ、ドラムがケニー・クラーク。
演奏は数少ないドン・バイアスのアルバム、メンバー全員が渡欧組、ピアノのバド・パウエルの参加が貴重。

The LP was recorded in Paris on December 15, 1961; it was released by Columbia (catalog number JC 35755) and contains nine tracks.
The CD was released by CBS as an import; it features original English liner notes by H. Renaud and contains nine tracks.
The lineup includes Cannonball Adderley as producer, Don Byas on tenor saxophone, Bud Powell on piano, Idris Sleeman on trumpet, Pierre Michelot on bass, and Kenny Clarke on drums.
This is one of the few albums featuring Don Byas; all members were part of the group that toured Europe, and Bud Powell’s participation on piano is particularly rare.
